Veðrið uses data to show weather stations, observations, local forecasts, road conditions, warnings, favorite stations, optional notifications, subscription status, and advertising.

Privacy policy
This policy explains how we process personal data in the app, for weather forecasts and notifications, on the website, in web widgets and the API service, for advertising and subscriptions, and when you contact us.

The short version
We try to collect as little as possible. Data is used to show weather and road conditions, operate the app, answer inquiries, process subscriptions, display ads, and check whether the service is working.
Which services does this cover?
Website, app, API, and web widgets.
This policy applies to the Veðrið app on iOS and Android, the website at vedrid.is, the API at api.vedrid.is, web widgets at cdn.vedrid.is, advertising, subscriptions, and all communications with us.
The website displays information, app screenshots, links, web widgets, and forms. Web servers may log technical information such as IP address, time, URL, and browser.
The API is free to use. We may log technical service data to protect, operate, and improve the service.
What data?
The data depends on which services you use.
- Location, if you grant the app permission, to find nearby stations and useful information. Precise location is not sent to Firebase Analytics.
- Weather forecasts are retrieved from yr.no / MET Norway for the coordinates of the selected weather station. Station coordinates are not the user’s location.
- If you enable notifications, we process a random installation ID for this phone, a technical delivery token, selected favorite stations, notification categories, thresholds, days, and times. We do not use a phone hardware identifier for this purpose.
- Usage data in the app and on the website, such as screen views, page views, subscription actions, and search statistics without logging raw search terms.
- Technical data such as device type, operating system, app version, IP address, timestamps, and errors.
- Subscription data such as subscription status, purchase history, renewal, and the user ID RevenueCat uses to associate a subscription with the app.
- Advertising data needed by Google Ads and approved mediation partners to display and measure ads. The choices depend on consent status, region, and device system permissions.
- Information you submit in an inquiry on this website, such as name, email address, company or organization, inquiry type, and message. The website does not store a database copy; it forwards the inquiry by email.

We use services needed to operate the app, website, subscriptions, advertising, analytics, and communications.
- Apple App Store for iOS subscriptions, payments, receipts, and app distribution.
- Google Play for Android subscriptions, payments, receipts, and app distribution.
- RevenueCat for subscription status, entitlements, and the user ID associated with subscriptions.
- yr.no / MET Norway for local weather forecasts based on weather-station coordinates.
- Google Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics, and Performance Monitoring to measure usage, performance, and failures in the app and websites.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging for optional-notification registration and delivery, and Firebase App Check to protect app registration endpoints.
- Sentry to collect error and performance information from the app and websites.
- Cloudflare to deliver web services and help secure them.
- Google Ads to display ads in the app, with Meta Audience Network as a possible mediation partner through Google AdMob.
- Hosting, web, email, and SMTP services that support vedrid.is and api.vedrid.is.
Cookies and consent
The website uses their technical functionality.
The website and related services may use necessary cookies or web storage to render pages, transmit data, and protect the system. vedrid.is also uses Firebase Analytics to measure use of the website and embedded web widgets, including page views, widget impressions, and technical browser and device information. You can block or clear this storage in your browser.
The app is also subject to advertising consent flows and iOS and Android settings, including location, notifications, sound, and, on iOS where applicable, tracking permission.
Your rights
You can contact us.
Under data protection law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction of processing, or object to processing, as applicable.
Send a request to [email protected]. If the matter concerns a subscription, please include the user ID shown in the app under More, in the Subscription card.
You may also lodge a complaint with the Icelandic Data Protection Authority, Persónuvernd, if you believe personal data is not being processed properly.

Veðrið displays data from public and connected data providers but is not responsible for accuracy, delays, outages, or decisions made on the basis of that information.
