The app

The signs come first.

Veðrið does not try to be everything to everyone. It shows the stations, wind, gusts, temperature, and the information that matters when traveling around Iceland.

  • Recreates the roadside weather signs used by the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration (IRCA).
  • Keeps live observations, road information, and local weather forecasts clearly separate.
  • Supports optional notifications for favorite stations.
  • Keeps the latest useful data and clearly labels it when it is older or cached for offline use.
  • Built on open data and services that everyone may use.

App features

Live observations first. More context when you need it.

Veðrið keeps live observations, forecasts, and warnings separate, so it is always clear what is happening now and what may happen next.

Weather forecast

Forecasts on station pages come from yr.no / MET Norway for the station coordinates. When available, they show the next hours, precipitation, wind, gusts, humidity, and UV, along with daily summaries and a temperature-and-precipitation chart.

The forecast supports the observations, but it is not guaranteed information about road conditions or weather.

Notifications

Choose favorite stations and enable optional notifications for wind and gusts, road closures and active warnings, or whether the weather is good! You choose the thresholds, days, and times, and can test the sound and check the phone’s registration status.

Settings

Choose how many nearby stations to show, their order, whether to keep the screen on, notification thresholds, allowed days and times, and ad privacy choices where available.

Languages

Icelandic is the default. The app language can be selected on first launch and later in Settings.

Icelandic English German French Polish

Also available offline

Veðrið keeps the most recent useful stations, observations, warnings, and recently viewed forecasts. Cached data remains visible and is labeled as older or offline until fresh data becomes available.

Weather app for Iceland

Which weather app should I use in Iceland?

Veðrið is an Icelandic weather app for iPhone and Android. It brings weather in Iceland, live observations, road conditions, local forecasts, and warnings together in one place.

The app

The same look, the same rhythm.

The look stays familiar year after year while the technology keeps improving: a dark background, blue signs, clear observations, and no unnecessary decoration.

Public API

Build your own services.

Anyone can build services with the data. The API is open and free to use, just like the data made freely available by the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration (IRCA) and the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO).

To try the API, connect to it, retrieve stations, or build your own service, start with the API documentation at api.vedrid.is/docs.

Web widget

Put the sign on your own website.

Veðrið can be embedded on other websites as a live blue sign. Choose one to five weather stations and the widget retrieves the latest observations.

It is designed for tourism businesses, municipalities, news sites, and others that want to show the weather on their website without building everything from scratch.

Data and responsibility

Open, but not official travel advice.

Live observations and road information in Veðrið are based on data from the Icelandic Road and Coastal Administration (IRCA), the Icelandic Meteorological Office (IMO), and connected home weather stations. Station-page forecasts come from yr.no / MET Norway and are shown separately from observations.
