Subscriptions

An in-app subscription is a simple way to support operations and help keep the service running.

Veðrið is a complex service run in our spare time. We operate API services, web servers, domains, map data, warnings, and apps for iOS and Android. A subscription helps pay for these services and keep the data open.

A subscription is not required. You can use the app with ads and the core functionality remains the same. An active subscription removes ads and supports ongoing operations and development.

How does it work?

Apple or Google.

When you buy a subscription in the app, Apple or Google handles the payment, receipt, renewal, and cancellation. We never receive your card number.

  • On iPhone, the subscription is handled through the App Store and your Apple account.
  • On Android, the subscription is handled through Google Play and your Google account.
  • You manage the subscription yourself in the App Store, Google Play, or the app.
  • You can cancel the subscription at any time.

Pricing

Regional pricing in the App Store and Google Play.

The app shows the price offered by the App Store or Google Play in your region. Under current subscription terms, Apple and Google generally retain a 15% service fee from subscription revenue, but the percentage, taxes, and final settlement may vary by store, country, and account status. We also pay Icelandic taxes and fees on the revenue.

Payment processing

Apple and Google process in-app payments and subscriptions. They handle the payment and manage the subscription.

Store share

The App Store and Google Play retain their share of the price before the payment reaches us. The remainder supports operations and continued development.

Operations

Subscription revenue helps operate the API, website, data processing, services, and apps.

The data remains open

A subscription does not lock away the data.

We want people to be able to build services with the weather data. The API remains free to use for anyone who wants to try it, connect to it, build with it, or publish the data elsewhere.
